Here are the top stories in Bedford today:
- Thousands of dogs, cats, and pets are up for adoption at area shelters, like 3-year-old female tortico cat at the Dragster Foundation in Manchester. This gentle, quiet, and loving cat likes to hide under the covers when she takes a catnap during the day. She snuggles with a cat named Felix that she has bonded with. There are many more pets with a story to share that need a loving home. You can read more about this story here: (Bedford Patch)
- New Hampshire's ski industry will face an extraordinary challenge in our lifetime. Climate scientists say that over past few decades, winters have been changing in New England. Ski areas that already rely on snowmaking machines to keep the slopes open may not be able to produce enough snow as the winters get warmer and the seasons get shorter. Climate scientist Jonathan Winter, of Dartmouth College, said his latest research shows that within the next 80 years, there will be a 50 percent decrease in snowfall. You can read the full story here: (WMUR)
- A bill was passed in the New Hampshire House that allows pharmacists to dispense a controversial drug, ivermectin, to treat COVID-19. "A standing order" written by a physician or nurse practitioner allows a pharmacist to dispense medication "without an individual prescription," said state Rep. Leah Cushman, R-Weare. Ivermectin is an anti-parasitic drug that became politically debated as a treatment for COVID-19 during the pandemic. Medical doctor and State Rep. Jerry Knirk, D-Freedom, said that there is "no credible evidence" that ivermectin is an effective treatment for COVID-19. Antiviral drugs approved in New Hampshire for COVID-19 treatment include Paxlovid and molnupiravir. You can read the full story here: (WMUR)
