Argument Over Not Wearing Mask At 7-11 Leads To Assault Of Clerk

Police say a dispute over the lack of a face-covering led to a suspect jumping over a counter and punching a store clerk.

MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester police need the public’s help to identify two people who they said assaulted a store clerk and damaged property.

On Nov. 30, offers responded to the Seven Eleven at 85 S. Main St. for a report of an employee attacked by a man earlier that day.

The employee informed the suspect that a facial covering was required in order to be in the business during the COVID 19 mandate. An argument ensued and the employee reported that the male said he would be back and then left.

The employee said, a short time later, the man returned with another man. He reported that the two ripped down the plexiglass barrier, jumped over the counter, and began punching the store clerk.

The suspects then ripped the employee’s shirt off and ran out of the store. Numerous items were knocked off the counter and the credit card reader was broken according to police.

"The first suspect is described as a white male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, and black mask," said Heather Hamel, a department spokesperson. "He had brown hair and was approximately 5’10” tall. The second suspect is described as Hispanic or a light-skinned black male. His clothing was unknown. The two were in a black sedan, unknown make or model."

Manchester police are investigating a second incident that resulted in an assault over a customer being asked to wear a mask. Police say a man is accused of throwing a vase at a worker at the Holiday Inn Express
