Bedford Bumped in District Finale

Walk-off home run sinks defending state champs.

Salem's first loss on the New Hampshire District 1 Little League all-star tournament proved a tough one to swallow.

Entering Saturday night's contest with a chance to clinch the tourney title against defending state champ Bedford, Salem instead suffered a 19-1 setback to set up a winner-take-all Monday night matchup.

And down 5-0 in the second inning of Monday's home contest, it appeared Salem was about to be bullied once again by Bedford.

Instead, the hosts hit three home runs in the next two innings, including a third-inning grand slam, to take a 7-5 lead, according to the Union Leader.

Bedford evened the score in the fifth when Luke Ramsay plated Alex Douidi and Matt Zifchak, but John Olivio's two-run walk-off shot in the bottom of the sixth secured the 9-7 victory and district crown for Salem.
