Here are the top 3 stories in Bedford today:

  1. A motorcycle driver and his female passenger died in a crash in Bedford on River Road , causing police to close the road Saturday around 4:30 p.m. Initial reports by witnesses, who were visibly shaken, said a car driven by an older man turned left from River Road and a motorcycle heading north tried to avoid the car, but hit the passenger side. EMTs and a medical helicopter provided aid, but couldn't save the Manchester motorcyclist or passenger. The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. (Bedford Patch)
  2. From eBooks to a Women's Club new member coffee, find out what's happening in Bedford this week. The Bedford Women's Club is hosting a new member coffee at the Bedford Public Library on Wednesday, Sept. 7, at 6:30 p.m. Also at the Library on Wednesday, find out how to download Books and eAudiobooks for free with your Bedford Public Library card and the Library app at the 3 p.m. class. 3. If you see steam pouring from a manhole cover in Boston, you may want to avoid walking on it. Eversource announced they will replace 40,000 manhole covers in Boston and throughout the state with pressuring releasing covers after several manhole coves exploded this summer, some causing serious injury. The company said that new latching covers will improve safety with an “energy release design that allows the cover to lift about three to four inches to roughly three to four inches to release built-up pressure before two latches on the rim catch it and drop the cover back in place," the company said, according to WBUR.
