Bedford Firemen's Ball Coming in May

Here are 5 things you should know today in Bedford!

1. Have a ball! The Bedford Firefighters Association is holding the 74th annual Firemen’s Ball at the Bedford Village Inn on Friday, May 3rd 2013. The event is a fundraiser for the Scholarship and Rescue funds for the Bedford Firefighters Association. The Firemen's Ball has been held in Bedford since the days of the Carousel Ball Room in Bedford Grove and moved to a few locations in town. This year's event is at the Bedford Village Inn. For more information, click here.

2. The race to 1,000. We picked up 11 new Facebook 'likes' yesterday and we're closing the gap. Still, Bedford Patch is still losing the race to 1,000 Facebook 'Likes' by 82 right now. In fact, Windham Patch enters the day with 959 Facebook followers to Bedford Patch's 877. I don't know about you, but Bedford doesn't lose at anything (just as the high school sports teams). Help me get to 1,000 by the end of the month by spreading the word and/or click here to 'like' Bedford Patch on Facebook. Thank you for your help! - Ryan

3. Here's 'The Scoop'. From now through the end of the school year, Bedford High School students who present their student ID will get a free iced coffee or tea with the purchase of a breakfast sandwich at The Inside Scoop.

4. Bedford PTG offers Student Safety Night.Bedford parents and caregivers are invited to a student safety night, which is scheduled for Wednesday, April 3 at 6:30 p.m. at McKelvie Intermediate School. The event includes guest speakers from Bedford Police and Bedford Fire Departments, in addition to representatives from the Children's Advocacy Center (CAC) of Hillsborough County, for an event centered on your child's safety. Topics will include public, fire, and Internet safety, as well as many other recommended safety measures to speak about with your children. Education regarding how to recognize when help may be needed will also be addressed. Registration is not required, but due to some of the subject matter, it is NOT recommended that children under 17 years attend the presentation.

5. The weatherman says ... cloudy early with sun in the afternoon. The forecasted high today is 50 degrees and the chance of rain is 20 percent, according to Weather.com.
