BHS Graduation Approaches

1. Break out the beach balls! Bedford High School's graduation is set for Saturday, June 15 at 10 a.m. at the BHS football stadium (inside, if raining).

2. The weatherman says ... Today's forecast calls for a slight cooldown, with a predicted high of 78 degrees and thunderstorms possible in the afternoon. Weather.com calls for a 50-percent chance of rain and a forecasted nighttime low of 51 degrees.

3. On the agenda. Today's Bedford Planning Board meeting, originally scheduled for 7 p.m., has been cancelled. The Historic District Commission gathers 7 p.m. Tuesday night.

5. On this day ... June 3, 1965, Major Edward H. White II became the first American to walk in space when he opened the hatch and stepped outside of the Gemini 4 space capsule. According to History.com, White was attached to to 25-foot-long tether and controlled his movements with a hand-held oxygen jet-propulsion gun:

White remained outside the capsule for just over 20 minutes. As a space walker, White had been preceded by Soviet cosmonaut Aleksei A. Leonov, who on March 18, 1965, was the first man ever to walk in space.
