Here are the top 3 stories in Bedford today:
- Castle in the Clouds was in the spotlight as one of the museums you can visit with a free pass from the Bedford Public Library. Castle in the Clouds was completed in 1914 and is "an unusual example of Arts and Crafts architecture in New England." Visitors of the mansion can take a self-guided tour of the house, visit the Art Gallery, ride horses, and hike on the grounds of the 5,500-acre estate. There is also a gift shop and restaurant. Find out more about the BPL museum pass program here. (Bedford (NH) Public Library via Facebook)
- A shout out to the residents of The Arbors of Bedford! Residents of The Arbors stopped by the Bedford Fire Department to say hello and brought homemade cookies. The Fire Department appreciated the cookies and their visit to the Safety Complex yesterday. In a recent social media post, the BFD added, "We appreciate your support for our love of food!" (Bedford (NH) Fire Department via Facebook)
- The popular Bedford Village Inn has a storied and surprising history. The historic inn dates back to 1810 and was built around a farmhouse and barn. The luxury hotel and award-winning restaurant has been a member of Historic Hotels of America since 2016, according to the Historic Hotels of America website. The Inn was originally part of a large parcel of land granted to John McLaughlin, the first town clerk of Bedford. He sold a parcel of the land to his neighbor Samuel Gordon. Gordon's younger brother, John, cleared and farmed the land in 1774, where he raised 14 children. The home and barn were later used to raise award-winning Shetland ponies. Then, Route 101 came in and divided the land in the 1950s. You can read more about the Inn's storied history here: (Historic Hotels)
From my notebook:
- Animal Rescue League of NH: "Happy new home, Oliver! This charming and goofy boy had quite the weight-loss journey to get to adoption day." (Animal Rescue League of NH via Facebook)
- Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains: "Yes... you did read that right! We are giving a free Girl Expo 2022 Drawstring Bag to the first 600 tickets purchased!" (Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains via Facebook)
- Bedford Bulldogs Athletic Booster Club: "Hey Bulldog Fans! 📣📣 Join me in thanking our friends at Bedford Community Television for streaming our BHS sporting events!" (Bedford Bulldogs Athletic Booster Club via Facebook)
