Here are the top stories today in Bedford:
- A Bedford reader asked Stacey Cole Nature Talks for help attracting birds to her yard. The column, originally published in the New Hampshire Union Leader and recently republished, remarked that many plants and shrubs provide year-round shelter for birds and protection from predators while also providing seeds, berries, nectar for hummingbirds and a place for birds to search for insects. Birch trees are a favorite for woodpeckers and nuthatches, while native evergreen trees attract birds, like finches, crossbills, chickadees, nuthatches, woodpeckers and blue jays. You can read Stacey Cole Nature Talks: A quick tutorial on trees and shrubs that attract birds, here (with a subscription): (The Union Leader)
- Bedford police responded when a car crashed through a garage into a backyard pool.
When Bedford police and fire arrived at the house on Sonoma Drive Friday evening, they found a car in the covered part of the pool. It was not fully submerged. Police said the homeowner pressed on the gas instead of the break. Cars have driven into pools before, investigators said, but not after going through the garage.
