Here are the top stories in Bedford today:

  1. The Rockingham Brewing Company in Derry announced a new brew this week called "Guinea Pig." They are celebrating by "hiring" a Guinea Pig from the Animal Rescue League of New Hampshire in Bedford named Celine to be their ambassador. Celine is a "friendly, social, and very curious" guinea pig, the ARLNH said in a recent post, and is the perfect ambassador. Through the new "Hire A Pet" program, the ARLNH encourages businesses to select a shelter pet to be their "Employee of the Month." Participating businesses promote their pet employee with the hope that the pet will find a loving home. You can see the many businesses who have hired shelter pets through the pet "employee" program here: (Facebook)
  2. A shout out to Bedford's Lieutenant Michael J. Monahan who has been promoted from the Detective Division to Captain/Operation Bureau. Captain Monahan will lead the Operations Bureau's Patrol Operations and Detective Division. He started serving the Bedford Police Department on June 2, 2002, after earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Science/Conservation Law Enforcement from Unity College in Maine. Captain Monahan distinguished himself during his 20 years of service, and has received many internal acknowledgments and letters of appreciation from the public. Captain Monahan was also praised by the Hillsborough County Attorney's Office for his investigative abilities, among his many other accomplishments. (Bedford Patch)
