Congresswoman Gives Shout Out to Bedford Memorial School
Carol Shea-Porter uses House floor to congratulate Bedford Memorial School, teachers, administration, students and parents for recent Blue Ribbon Award.

Last week, Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter spoke on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to congratulate Bedford Memorial Elementary School for its selection by the Department of Education as a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Shea-Porter recognized the elementary school for being among New Hampshire’s highest-performance schools and congratulated the community for emphasizing the crucial importance of early education.
Founded in 1982, the National Blue Ribbon Schools Program recognizes public and private elementary, middle, and high schools where students perform at very high levels or where significant improvements are being made in students' academic achievement. Memorial Elementary School was one of the three schools in New Hampshire to receive a Blue Ribbon Award in 2012, along with Canterbury Elementary School and Lisbon Regional Middle School.
Shea-Porter’s prepared remarks read as follows:

I recently had the pleasure of visiting New Hampshire’s Memorial Elementary School to congratulate the school community for their recognition as a National Blue Ribbon School.
Bedford Memorial Elementary educates children from preschool through fourth grade, and the school is dedicated to each student’s academic, emotional, and physical development. The teachers’ and staff’s attention to every single child and every single detail was obvious from the moment I entered the school. The young students at the school-wide ceremony I attended were some of the best behaved students I have ever seen, and it was clear that the teachers and the administration celebrated children and were dedicated to their wellness and their education.

At the ceremony, the school recognized the children, the leaders who had worked so hard throughout the year. They also sang and danced to help showcase their arts and holistic approach to education.
The ceremony served as a testament to the tremendous leadership of the principal, the staff, school board, and most importantly, parents.
The Department of Education’s Blue Ribbon School Award is exactly the kind of positive recognition that helps schools like Memorial and shows others what is possible in every school for every child.
Congratulations to Bedford Memorial Elementary School.
