Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. The 13th annual New England Pond Hockey Classic on Lake Winnipesauke in Meredith was canceled on Saturday due to unsafe ice conditions. Organizers of the Pond Hockey Classic said on its website that the warm temperatures, rain, sleet, and snow are like "nothing they have seen before," and made conditions on the lake unplayable and unsafe. When crews removed snow from the surface of the lake, the weight of the equipment caused cracks in the ice and springs to open up. Crews working through the night said the compromised ice became unsafe for them and their machinery. This year would have been the 13th year of outdoor pond hockey on the lake with 280 teams and 2,200 participants. Organizers said that participants and spectators can redeem their beer tickets and enjoy live music at The Common Man and the Labatt Blue Zone from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday. 2. In Tuesday's now-famous Instagram post, Tom Brady called it quits and announced his retirement from professional football saying, "I feel like the luckiest person in the world" in an Instagram thread that registered more than 2 million “likes” in less than an hour. Brady ended his remarkable football career after 22 seasons in the NFL. The former Patriots quarterback won six Super Bowls with The New England Patriots before going to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2020. You can read more about this story here: (Manchester Ink Link)
  3. A dog named Nobles is looking for a home. The Animal Rescue League of N.H. said the handsome brown and white dog is making some new friends, and they hope those friends will turn into family soon. Nobles isn't always the most patient dog, they said, but he's doing his best. This dog and many other dogs and cats are looking for forever homes. The Animal Rescue League of N.H. in Bedford is currently closed to the public, but they encourage people to call for adoptions and surrenders by appointment.
