Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. "It's worrisome," said Lori Baldwin, a vet at Animal Care Clinic Monadnock in Peterborough and Veterinary Emergency Center of Manchester (VECM). Dogs in Bedford and other parts of New Hampshire are becoming seriously ill very quickly from a mysterious illness called canine infectious respiratory disease complex (CIRDC). Officials still don't know the root cause of the illness. Dogs become ill "one to three weeks" after exposure, Baldwin said. She added, since May, VECM has seen around 300 cases, and "the ICU is constantly full" with dogs that have pneumonia and need oxygen. Some don't make it. Baldwin encourages dog owners to "be cautious before taking their dog to a space with other dogs where they could be exposed." (Monadnock Ledger Transcript)
