Here are the top stories in Bedford today:

  1. Spirits will be high this week as the New Hampshire Liquor Commission hosts Distiller's Week from Oct. 31 - Nov. 4. In partnership with the Irish Food Board, "A Taste of Ireland" will take place at the Manchester Country Club in Bedford on Wednesday, Nov. 2, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. The cost is $60. In addition to tasting events, restaurant food pairings and liquor store presentations, a highlight of Distiller's Week will be the "Ninth Annual Distiller’s Showcase of Premium Spirits" on Thursday, Nov. 3, at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Manchester, from 6-8:30 p.m. (Subscription/The Union Leader)
  2. The 16th annual Keller Williams Charity Auction at the Derryfield Country Club in Manchester raised about $105,000. Charities and nonprofits "that improve the lives of children and families" will receive the funds, including the Boys & Girls Club of Manchester, the Mental Health Center of Greater Manchester, Neighbor Works Southern New Hampshire," and other organizations that apply. The auction, organized by Keller Williams Realty Metropolitan, with offices in Bedford, has raised over $1 million for charity since it started. (Manchester Ink Link)
  3. Managing partners Andy Sanborn, a former Republican state senator from Bedford, and state representative Laurie Sanborn, will present plans to build a multi-phase casino project in Concord. The Concord Casino expansion will include "a charitable gaming facility, restaurant, events center and hotel" on land that is "visible from Interstate 393" in Concord off Loudon Road. A centerpiece of the proposal includes recently approved "historic horse racing games [that] look and operate similar to other gaming machines, but players pick winners of randomly selected horse races that have already been run."
