Here are the top stories today in Bedford:
- Polls open today at 7 a.m.! Voter turnout for the midterm elections Tuesday, Nov. 8, from 7 a.m.- 7 p.m. at Bedford High School is expected to be heavy. Bedford Police explained that traffic patterns will be similar to those used during the general election in 2020. For example, "Nashua Road southbound from Route 101 will be reduced to one lane near the Bedford High school entrance and will only allow vehicles to turn right into the campus to vote." See the full list of traffic changes for voting here: (Bedford NH Police Department via Facebook)
- Some of the best films are based on novels—including the big-screen film showing Thursday at the Bedford Public Library. The movie, based on the best-selling book, Where the Crawdads Sing, is about a woman who was abandoned by her mother in the North Carolina marshlands and had to raise herself. She "feels detached" from the local communities near the marshes "until two men show interest in her." See the film at 2 p.m. Nov. 10, at the Bedford Public Library. You're welcome to bring snacks. Registration is required. (Bedford Patch)
- Remember the shocking murders at a Bedford hotel in August 2021? The former New Jersey man accused of killing two men is expected to plead guilty to two counts of first-degree murder. Theodore Luckey faces other charges related to the crime, including "two counts of second-degree murder, three counts for knowingly possessing a machete, firearm and metallic knuckles as a felon."
