Here are the top 4 stories today in Bedford:
- It's that time of year again! Fall athletic tryouts are "well underway" at Bedford High School, with the new school year right around the corner. Consider supporting athletics by becoming a member of the Bedford Bulldogs Athletic Booster Club, the club wrote in a recent post. The cost is only. $25 per year (with a discount for multiple years). - Make a craft and "beat the heat" at the Bedford Public Library. Teens ages 12-22 are invited to "beat the heat" the BPL's new Teen Take and Make Craft, the library wrote in a recent post. Stop by the new YA bookshelves to pick up a craft kit to make your own folded paper fan. (While supplies last.). You can find out more here: (Bedford (NH) Public Library via Facebook)
- If your well water runs dry from the severe drought, the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services has a program that can help. The program makes sure that New Hampshire residents have access to safe drinking water if they qualify and the well is dry due to severe drought conditions in the state. The well water program can cover up to 100 percent of the cost of drilling a new well. You can find out more about the well water program here: (WMUR)
- Lower costs for life-saving prescription drugs will soon be capped, thanks to the recently passed Inflation Reduction Act. The recently passed Inflation Reduction Act will cap the prices drug companies can charge for some life-saving medications. Bedford resident and health care volunteer Bev Cotton said, "While people are sitting to get their chemo treatments, I watch the nurses on the phones, trying to work with the patient's insurance and the pharmacy, trying to find them the best price they can for the medicine they need to survive." She added, when Ketruda, a cancer emission drug, became too expensive for one man at $15,000 per infusion, he had to stop the life-saving treatment. The newly passed law will take effect in 2025.
