Here are the top 3 stories in Bedford today:
- New Hampshire is facing moderate-to-severe drought conditions, due to the heat wave in July, and higher-than-normal temperatures in August with little rain expected. On Thursday, the state Department of Environmental Services recommended that local cities and towns "adopt mandatory outdoor water use restrictions." Fifty-three percent of the state is already experiencing moderate-to-severe drought conditions. City councils, the board of selectmen, the board of public works and local administrators "have the authority to order a cutback on landscape watering or filling swimming pools." Nashua and Bedford have already implemented mandatory outside water restrictions. New Hampshire farmers are already feeling the impact. You can find out more here: (DES.nh.gov)
- The Bedford Athletic Club summer soccer camp is in session, and kids are already having fun. "It's great to see so many smiling faces and thumbs up from the kids who participated in Week 1 of our Summer Camps," the Bedford Athletic posted this week. Summer soccer camp continues next week. Week 2 of soccer camp will be from Aug. 15-19, with an option to attend a full day (9 a.m. - 3 p.m.) for $220, or a half day (9 a.m. - noon) for $170. - Things are looking up! New Hampshire high school students built a plane that flew in Londonderry's PlaneFest. The Manchester School of Technology student project was done in partnership with educational non-profit Tango Flight and the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire. “We try to look to the future and to get the young people interested in their future in aviation and aerospace," said Jeff Rapsis, executive director of the Aviation Museum of New Hampshire. What happens next? School officials said "the plane will eventually be sold on the open market with the proceeds going to fund more student builds in the future." (WMUR)
