Bedford, New Hampshire's Dan Karr, founder and CEO of ValChoice, an insurance ratings and analytics company, said there are three main reasons people benefit from buying renters insurance: when a landlord requires a renters insurance policy, to protect personal property such as furniture, collectibles, clothing, etc. in the event of an unexpected loss, and to protect you from liability in the event someone is unexpectedly injured at the residence. Also, if you had to temporarily live somewhere else due to an unexpected event, like a fire or water damage, your living expenses to temporarily relocate would be covered.
