Here are the top 3 stories today in Bedford:

  1. A high heat advisory is in place for Bedford on Thursday. With hot temperatures near 100 degrees with high humidity expected on Thursday, here are a few things to keep in mind: Be sure to check on neighbors, friends and relatives who are especially vulnerable in extremely hot weather, including young children, adults over 65, anyone with chronic medical conditions, and pregnant women. Remember, "it's never safe to leave a child, disabled individual, or pet locked in a car," even in your own driveway, officials said. Also, wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and a wide brim hat to keep cool. Stay inside in air conditioning as much as possible, or go to a store, mall, or market for relief from the heat. Fans provide some comfort, but "in extreme heat, they won't prevent heat-related illness." Also, drink water to stay hydrated! For more information, visit: (Manchester Ink Link)
  2. These shelter pets of the week are too cute not to mention! Get to know Span, Spic, and Ruby. They are just a few of the many pets hoping to find a caring, loving, forever home. Over 6 million dogs and cats, birds, pigs, and other companion animals are surrendered or taken in every year by rescue organizations nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. 3. Is monkeypox in New Hampshire? There have been 13 confirmed cases of the illness in New Hampshire, and state health officials said "more vaccines are on the way" to help fight the spread of the disease. State health officials have been vaccinating people "with known exposure to the virus," and those at high risk of exposure. Dr. Benjamin Chan noted that a majority of infections have occurred in men who have sex with other men, but the virus is not limited to that group. Monkeypox can also spread through close skin-to-skin contact and possibly through respiratory secretions, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. (WMUR)
