Firefighters Respond To Manchester Apartment Building Fire

Several calls came in for a structure on fire on Pine Street on Thursday and when crews arrived, they had heavy smoke coming from the roof.

MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester fire received several calls for smoke coming from a multi-unit building at 595 Pine St. on Thursday.

When the first firefighters arrived, they had smoke coming from the eves and roof of the house. Crews quickly set up ladder trucks and made entry to the building to search for any people. Fire crews located the fire in the ceiling of a bathroom on the top floor. The fire had spread into the attic space above, according to officials.

Firefighters used saws to ventilate the roof directly above the fire and they were able to extinguish the fire within 20 minutes.

Additional crews were dispatched once there was a confirmed fire due to the dangers of the extreme heat they were facing. An AMR ambulance also was standing by for medical needs.

Fire investigators are at the scene and will determine the cause and origin. Initial information from a resident was the building owner had recently had work done on a vent fixture in the ceiling. However, it is unknown if this is related to the cause of the fire.
