Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. Did you know that there is a Frank Lloyd Wright home in Manchester, not far from Bedford? Libby Kinder wrote that when she and her husband lived in Bedford, they were delighted to discover they were living near a "distinctive" Frank Lloyd Wright home built in 1950 called The Zimmerman House. It's owned by the Currier Museum of Art and is available for touring. You can read the full story here: (The Gazette)
  2. A shout out to Garrett Constant of Bedford, who was in the first EMT graduating class through Manchester's AMR's Earn While You Learn program. Constant was in the EMT program's first graduating class of 16 men and women. Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Cashin of Manchester congratulated the new EMTs serving as emergency responders. Eight graduates were hired as full-time EMTs and eight were hired part-time for AMR Manchester. Cashin said it was "a privilege to work along with these future lifesavers" who demonstrated "a strong commitment to our citizens and community." You can read the full story here: (Bedford Patch)
  3. The nonprofit Dartmouth-Hitchcock medical center that has operated in Bedford for nearly 35 years is in a battle to build a new 40,000 to 45,000 square foot facility on Kilton Road. The health care provider on 5 Washington Place in Bedford plans to build a new building on 15 acres of land they purchased in Bedford five years ago. Bill Greiner, the founder of Primary Bank and a property developer, proposed a town amendment to limit development in Bedford's Performance Zone to buildings that are no more than two stories with a total building size not to exceed 20,000 square feet. Greiner said that the amendment, on the March 8 ballot, is about taxes the medical center would not have to pay as a nonprofit health organization. Taxes have been a long-standing area of conflict between Bedford and Dartmouth-Hitchcock, who sued the town in 2020 when Bedford became the first municipality to deny its request for a charitable exemption.
