Free Family Fun in Bedford this Weekend

Here are five things you should know in Bedford today.

1. Free family fun! Lighthouse Christian Fellowship of Bedford is hosting Lifefest, an outreach family-friendly community event, featuring free food, music and kid's activities. The event takes place this Saturday, June 2,9 from 12-4 p.m., at Riley Field, near the town stage and Bedford Memorial Pool. Parking is available behind the Bedford pool or in the Nashua Road lot across from Bedford High School.

2. Celebrate Two Years of Bedford deliciousness! On Friday, June 28, from 2-5 p.m., The Inside Scoop is offering $1 cones, face painting, samples and much more. For more information on "the Scoop's" second-anniversary festivities, click here.

3. The weatherman says ... Temperatures cool down a bit more today as the forecasted high, according to Weather.com is 75 degrees with clouds and showers likely in the afternoon including possible thunderstorms, and a 60-percent chance of precipitation. The nighttime low is 64 degrees with a 100-percent chance of rain.

4. On the agenda. The Bedford Energy Commission is the lone board with a meeting scheduled today. They gather at 7 p.m. at the BCTV Bedford Town Meeting Room.

5. On this day ... June 27, 1985, the American Association of State Highway and Transportation decertified Route 66 as an official federal highway. According to History.com:

Measuring some 2,200 miles in its heyday, Route 66 stretched from Chicago, Illinois to Santa Monica, California, passing through eight states. According to a New York Times article about its decertification, most of Route 66 followed a path through the wilderness forged in 1857 by U.S. Navy Lieutenant Edward Beale at the head of a caravan of camels. Over the years, wagon trains and cattlemen eventually made way for trucks and passenger automobiles
