Goffstown Man Indicted On 7 Felony Counts After Manchester Crash

Thomas Van Uden is accused of causing a seven-vehicle accident at Bridge and Elm streets in August where weveral people were injured.

MANCHESTER, NH — A Goffstown man has been indicted on several felony counts of reckless conduct with a deadly weapon by a Hillsborough County grand jury.

Manchester fire, police, and AMR ambulance responded to several reports of a multi-vehicle accident at Bridge and Elm streets on Aug. 2. When responders arrived, they found seven vehicles involved in the accident. One car was on its roof and appeared to be on fire as bystanders pulled the man from the vehicle.

The police investigation revealed the crash was caused by a BMW that was driving east across the Bridge Street Bridge. The BMW lost control, eventually crashed into multiple vehicles, and stopped at the intersection of Bridge and Elm streets. The BMW then drove across the intersection before rolling onto the roof and crashing into more stopped vehicles.

Thomas Van Uden, 57, of Goffstown was driving the BMW at the time of the accident according to MPD Sgt Michael Donahue. Van Uden when taken to the hospital from the accident and was accused of giving officers a different name than his own. It was later determined Thomas Van Uden was his correct identity.

Van Uden faces seven felony counts of reckless conduct-deadly weapon a class B felony. Each count carries a possible penalty of 3.5 to 7 years and up to a $4,000 fine.

"The indictment says that Van Uden recklessly engaged in conduct which may have placed a person of serious bodily injury when he operated a motor vehicle, a deadly weapon.”

The indictment lists the initials of several people in the vehicles struck and a pedestrian who was nearly hit.

A date for Van Uden’s arraignment is yet to be determined.
