Have a Peachy Time at the Bedford Farmer's Market Today

Here are a handful of things you should probably know today in Bedford.

1. August is Eat Local Month!
Gov. Maggie Hassan has officially proclaimed August New Hampshire Eat Local Month. She is encouraging all citizens and businesses to participate and support local farms. What better time to celebrate and enjoy all that our local food community has to offer! The official proclamation can be found by clicking here.

2. Speaking of eating local ... it's Tuesday! And that means it's Bedford Farmer's Market Day! This week's theme, as you may have guessed, is Peach Fest, and the Purple Finch Cafe tent is having a peach food demo station. The raffle of the week, with all proceeds going to support the market, is for a $20 gift card to Chen Yang Li. Local author Dick Janelle, a retired Bedford science teacher, will be selling his book, Salmon Falls 1956, at the market, and Bedford artist Sue Whittaker will also be there. 3. Don't forget your grass skirt!
The Purple Finch Café is celebrating two years of great food and fun in Bedford this Thursday, Aug. 22, beginning at 7 a.m. Join the festivities and wear a Hawaiian Shirt, and don't forget to try The Purple Finch's Big Kahuna Burger!

4. The weatherman says ...
We've got a pretty nice-looking week on tap weather-wise, with today being the exception. According to the National Weather Service, today is going to be rainy, rainy, rainy. Showers and thunderstorms are likely in the morning, followed by more rain and likely a thunderstorm after 1 p.m. Patchy fog before 10 a.m. and a high near 77. Tonight, showers and thunderstorms likely before midnight, then a slight chance of showers between midnight and 2 a.m. Some of the storms could produce heavy rain. Patchy fog. Otherwise, cloudy, then gradually becoming partly cloudy, with a low around 60.

5. New Student Orientation. Just moved to Bedford and have a student registered to attend Ross A. Lurgio Middle School for the 2013-'14 school year? Meet the administration and take a tour of the building at the school's new student orientation on Aug. 14 at 1 p.m. Those with additional questions may call the Lurgio Middle School's main office at 310-9100.
