Heat Wave to Blanket New Hampshire?

Here are five things you should know today in Bedford.

1. Family Fun Day! Manchester Christian Church is kicking off summer with a free Family Fun Day at its Bedford campus. The event will feature bounce houses, a batting cage, face painting, games, food, and even a visit from NH Fisher Cats' mascot Fungo. All are invited to attend the fun from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 56 Old Bedford Road.

2. The weatherman says ... Temperatures approach a record high today as Weather.com forecasts the mercury to rise to 89 degrees with plentiful sunshine and a 0-percent chance of rain.

3. Sneeze alert! Don't forget your allergy medication as the pollen count in the local air rises significantly with the dry weather the next four days.

4. On this day ... May 30, 1911, Ray Harroun won the inaugural Indianapolis 500 by driving his single-seated Marmon Wasp to victory in what has become one of the world's most famous motor racing competitions.

5. Dog licencing window is closing. Those looking to register their dog for 2013 may do so without fine for the remainder of the month. Bedford Town Clerk Lori Radke warns that after May 31, late fees will apply, and civil forfeiture fines of $25 will be issued beginning June 21. For the convenience of residents, renewals are available via mail or online through EDOG. The form and EDOG are both located here. Those renewing by mail should be sure to include proof of current rabies vaccination and a self-addressed stamped envelope. The town clerk is also available to license dogs at the Bedford Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. at the Bedford Memorial Town Pool field. Those who no longer have a dog or need additional information are encouraged to contact Radke at 472-3550 or email her at Lradke@bedfordnh.org.
