Here are the top stories in Bedford today:

  1. It was unusually hot this weekend as an unexpected May heat advisory was issued this weekend. Summer-like temperatures reached as high as 95 degrees in Bedford, but it wasn't the only place feeling the heat. AccuWeather said nearly 100 million people, including most of New Hampshire, experienced potentially record-breaking hot and humid weather on Saturday and Sunday. The Department of Safety's Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Director Jennifer Harper reminds people expecting extremely high heat to "stay hydrated and take extra precautions." 2. A shout out to Bedford 7 year olds Nataniel and Lauren Toussaint, who didn't let the heat stop them from having fun this weekend at the Color Blast Fun Run in Bedford. More than 700 people were blasted with colored powder on Sunday morning as they ran or walked a two-mile path. At the finish line, runners were happy to find cold water and snow cones to help them cool off in the unusually hot weather. Seven-year-olds Nataniel and Lauren Toussaint didn't let the heat stop them from enjoying the day. “It was so much fun. It was completely so much fun,” said Nataniel Toussaint. 3. How can you protect pets during hot and humid days? Avoid leaving pets in the car, as temperatures quickly skyrocket, even with the window open. It may also be too hot to leave pets outside on hot, humid days. Dr. Jay Volinski with Rockingham Emergency Veterinary Hospital, advises pet owners to make sure their pets "have access to clean water, shade, and ideally, air conditioning," adding that older and younger animals, "especially those with breathing challenges like a bulldog," should be kept in the air conditioning.
