- Seafood prices have been on the rise in restaurants in Bedford and around New Hampshire, and it may be because the seafood industry was hit harder by the pandemic. A recent University of Hampshire study found there were an average of 65 positive COVID-19 cases out of 1,000 workers in the seafood industry — more than double the rate of infections in other food industries. Close working conditions in processing factories and on fishing boats, as well the difficulty of wearing masks in wet conditions on a fishing boat "appears to have played a direct role," researchers said. - A proposed spending ban in New Hampshire could mean the end of a planned new and efficient commuter rail train from Boston to Nashua and Manchester. The pending legislation would ban spending state money on the proposed Capitol Corridor Project to extend commuter train service into the state with two stops in Nashua and one in Manchester. Those on both sides agree that if state dollars are taken off the table now, it could end the project "before it ever gets off the ground," and would also end the economic opportunity that the new rail service could bring to the state.
