Multiple Police Agencies Search For Man Who Left Accident Scene

Bedford firefighters responded to a crash on Exit 13 off-ramp. A man who was bleeding badly left the scene and was found on Iron Horse Dr.

BEDFORD, NH - Bedford Fire, and New Hampshire State Police were dispatched to a reported accident on the northbound Exit 13 Everett Turnpike off-ramp Monday. While units were responding dispatchers advised a man was in the vehicle saying he had been shot and was bleeding badly.

Bedford Fire requested Merrimack Fire at about 7:45 p.m. to respond for additional resources in locating the accident that was being called in at conflicting locations. Bedford Fire arrived on the scene and found the vehicle on Exit 13, but the vehicle was unoccupied. Firefighters reported a large amount of blood in the vehicle and around the vehicle.

Police Officers from Bedford, Merrimack, and State Police began to search the area. Firefighters used a thermal camera to check several steep embankments in the area. A blood trail brought police to South River Road in the area of the U-Haul facility.

Officers and firefighters continued to search the area. A civilian spotted a man covered in blood, limping, wearing shorts and a backpack that matched the description given over several radio broadcasts. The man turned onto Iron Horse Drive and a Bedford Police officer was flagged down and approached the subject.

The man was asked to remove his backpack, and officers approached him. Medical attention was immediately requested, and a tourniquet was requested from arriving units. The man was given medical treatment at the scene and then rushed to a local hospital by Bedford Fire and followed by police.

Police continued to search the area for the possibility that there was a second person in the area, no one was located. A State Police K9 was requested to the scene to search the area for another person and a possible weapon.

There is no official information indicating the man suffered a gunshot wound, but this is an active investigation.

Some of the initial radio traffic indicated a federal law enforcement was involved, which does not appear to be credible information at this time.
