Woman Perishes In Fire Overnight In Manchester On High Street

Firefighters arrived to a fully engulfed camper Sunday. A Manchester resident was found deceased inside the vehicle.

MANCHESTER, NH - Manchester firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle fire on High Street Sunday. When they arrived at 10:27 p.m. they found a large camper fully engulfed in fire.

Engine 11 requested an additional engine to respond for water supply and firefighters worked to knock down and extinguish the intense fire.

When firefighters made entry into the vehicle authorities confirm a woman was found deceased inside the vehicle.

Investigators from the Manchester Fire Marshals Office, New Hampshire State Fire Marshals Office, and the Manchester Police responded to the scene and worked on the investigation for several hours. High Street was closed between Pine and Union Street while investigators worked at the scene.

The deceased woman found in the vehicle has not been positively identified, however in a press release authorities indicated she was a Manchester resident.

The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office, Manchester Fire Department, and Manchester Police Department are investigating the incident.

An autopsy will be conducted Monday, at Concord Hospital. At this time the victim has not been positively identified.

The City of Manchester has been faced with a large homeless population who have set up encampments. The homeless population regularly uses vehicles to shelter from inclement and cold weather.

In October a man who set up a small encampment inside bushes near a gas station was burned over 50 percent of his body.
