Overnight Fire Destroys Bedford Garage

Quick thinking by firefighters saves home, says deputy chief.

A two-bay garage was a total loss in an overnight fire that may have easily spread to the detached Bedford home if it weren't for first responders establishing an exposure line between the house and the garage.

Bedford Deputy Fire Chief Mark Klose said his department responded to a call at 1:54 a.m. and noted the blaze was fully involved when firefighters arrived at 10 Danforth Drive, adding that there was significant radiant heat being produced by the flames.

As a result, the house received exterior damage, specifically to its vinyl siding on the side of the home near the garage and in the rear of the house. An attached four-seasons room was also damaged.

The fire was contained in roughly 45 minutes, said Klose, and the home's occupants, who escaped without injury, were able to return home after thermal imaging revealed no damage or carbon monoxide dangers inside the home.

Bedford FD received mutual aid from Goffstown and Manchester, and the station was covered by Amherst while the flames were extinguished.
