A Pedestrian Was Killed Outside Catholic Medical Center By Van

A man was trapped under a van after being struck on McGregor Street; dragged into a parking lot. Hydraulic tools were used to lift the van.

MANCHESTER, NH — Manchester police are investigating an accident involving a pedestrian and a small delivery van outside of Catholic Medical Center on McGregor Street on Tuesday. AMR ALS 3 Ambulance was exiting the hospital when they witnessed the accident.

Manchester Fire Engine 6, Rescue 1, and AMR ambulance responded to the report of a person under a van, dispatch advised extrication tools would be needed.

Firefighters and AMR arrived at the scene at about 7:15 p.m. and immediately worked to extricate the victim from under a small van, and a trauma alert was activated at Catholic Medical Center.

Firefighters used hydraulic tools and cribbing to lift the van to remove a man in his sixties, and rushed him to the Emergency Room.

The 67-year-old man from Manchester was struck by a delivery van traveling south on McGregor Street and dragged about 200 feet down McGregor Street until the van stopped at the CMC main entrance, according to MFD Battalion Chief Ken Proulx.

The man was brought to CMC and succumbed to his injuries according to Manchester Police.

The driver of the van is a 24-year-old man and remained at the scene.

The identities of the pedestrian and the operator of the motor vehicle involved are being withheld at this time until proper next of kin notifications have been made.

The cause and totality of the crash are still under investigation by the Manchester Police Department Traffic Unit.
