Here are the top stories today in Bedford:
- Vandals damaged mailboxes in Bedford and Merrimack last week, and the police investigating are asking for video surveillance to help catch the culprits. Bedford Police Chief John Bryfonski on Monday said that more than 30 mailboxes were damaged in Bedford and Merrimack since Thursday. Residents and businesses in the area of Hancock Drive, McIntosh Lane, Meadow Road, Nashua Road, North Amherst Road, Old Lantern Road, Oriole Drive, Rosewell Drive, and Wallace Road that have video surveillance cameras are asked to contact the Bedford Police Department immediately with camera footage and leads at 603-472-5113. - If you were delayed on the Everett Turnpike Sunday night, it was likely due to drainage work. The highway expansion project had to close the northbound off-ramp from the Everett Turnpike in Bedford to I-293 south/Route 101 east on Sunday, according to the N.H. Department of Transportation. Be careful driving and exiting in the area, with construction barriers around the exits. Allow extra time and expect delays as construction continues. (Subscription/The Union Leader)
- Friends of Aine hosted a "try-athlon" for kids in Bedford. Running, biking, and swimming were all part of a fun "try-athlon" hosted by the Friends of Aine. The "race" was for kids ages 4 through 15, regardless of their athletic ability. Proceeds from the fundraising event, that had 300 eager participants, were for the Friends of Aine Center for Grieving Children and Families. Friends of Aine was started by the Phillips family after their daughter Aine died from a rare disease. The nonprofit offers bereavement support services to grieving children and families.
