Here are the top 3 stories in Bedford today:
- It's hard to believe that seven years have passed since the shooting death of Denise Robert from Bedford, who was killed walking on a quiet Manchester street. The 62 year old was shot while she was out for an evening walk in North Manchester on Sunday, Aug. 30, 2015, after parking in a church parking lot, when neighbors said previously they had heard a single gunshot. Local, state, and federal investigators searched the neighborhood for clues, but so far, no arrests have been made. The attorney general's office said, "It's not a cold case," but is an active investigation. (WMUR Manchester)
- The Bedford Public Library has a happy announcement: "The reading pups are coming back!" Emerging readers can come to the BPL and spend 15 minutes reading to Lily or Lucy! Lucy will be all ears on Sept. 6, and Lily would love to hear stories on Sept. 14. Bedford Library Cardholders can call the Children's Room to reserve a spot at 603-792-1389." - A new advisory panel will research how to reduce cyanobacteria blooms on New Hampshire lakes and ponds, officials announced. Several toxic blooms closed lakes and ponds in the state this year, including Crystal Lake in Manchester and Sebbins Pond in Bedford. Bacteria blooms are believed to have killed dogs in New Hampshire. They can also make people sick. IN addition to the advisory panel, a new hotline has been set up to report cases of cyanobacteria blooms, that look like green scum on the beach or water. In the past, the state would post warning signs on specific beaches or a specific area of a water, but now the entire pond or lake is labeled when toxic bacteria levels are found. Pets and people should stay away from the water until the state puts out an "all clear" report saying that the pond or lake water and beaches are safe. (InDepthNH.org)
