Here are the top stories in Bedford today:

  1. Warning sirens from Seabrook Nuclear Power Plant caused beachgoers to evacuate Hampton, Rye, and Seabrook beaches on Tuesday morning. At around 11:15 a.m., Hampton police announced on Twitter that it was a false alarm, saying the messages "were not accurate and there is no threat to the public." New Hampshire Emergency Management and Hampton police posted notices saying it was a false alarm. The nuclear plant, owned by NextEra Energy, has been active since the 1990s and is expected to operate at least through 2030, "with a 20-year extension after that." State and local officials said that siren alerts coming from the nuclear power plant were "from an accidental activation." (WMUR)
  2. The Bedford Police Department posted a recent reminder not to drink and drive. They wrote: "Two of the most precious gifts we are given are our lives and our freedom. Drive sober or find a designated driver so you don't risk losing either." And they added, "if you feel different, you drive different." (Bedford Polio Department via Twitter)
  3. If you're looking for a new home, or just curious, Patch and Redfin.com bring you the latest listings in the Bedford area.
