Severe Weather Advisory in Effect this Morning

Here are five things you should know today in Bedford.

1. Bedford history isn't a mystery. Stop by the Bedford Historical Society at 24 N. Amherst Road, next to the Bedford Town Offices this Sunday, June 2, from 2-4 p.m., to say "hello" and enjoy some refreshments. The museum is open for everyone to visit. There is no fee to visit our museum. There will also be information about the upcoming car show in August and other events the historical society is hosting. Stevens-Buswell CQ Coffee is also available for purchase in bean or ground form.

3. The weatherman says ... Periods of rain with a few thunderstorms are likely in the morning. Some storms may be severe, according to a special weather alert. The high today is 75 degrees with an 80-percent chance of rain.

2. This day in history: One of America's best-loved presidents, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, is born into a politically and socially prominent family in Brookline, Massachusetts, on May 29, 1917. He was the first American president to be born in the 20th century.

4. Dog licencing window is closing. Those looking to register their dog for 2013 may do so without fine for the remainder of the month. Bedford Town Clerk Lori Radke warns that after May 31, late fees will apply, and civil forfeiture fines of $25 will be issued beginning June 21. For the convenience of residents, renewals are available via mail or online through EDOG. The form and EDOG are both located here. Those renewing by mail should be sure to include proof of current rabies vaccination and a self-addressed stamped envelope. The town clerk is also available to license dogs at the Bedford Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. through 2 p.m. at the Bedford Memorial Town Pool field. Those who no longer have a dog or need additional information are encouraged to contact Radke at 472-3550 or email her at Lradke@bedfordnh.org.
