Six Ways to Beat the Summer Heat in Bedford

Sweating the high temperatures? No need! We have six great ways for you to cool down today, and every hot summer day in Bedford!

With temperatures today expected to rise above 90 degrees, here's a list of six ways to escape the summer heat in and around Bedford:

1. Take a dip. Bedford's Memorial Pool is open today and everyday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The pool, located behind Riley Field, at 20 County Road, is a great way to enjoy the summer with the kids and catch up with people from around town.

2. Get the Inside Scoop. Bedford's only ice cream shop opened two years ago. The Inside Scoop –  which is open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. during the week and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Sunday – offers many Richardson's Ice Cream flavors as well as coffee and baked goods.

3. Feelin' some FroYo? TCBY recently opened on South River Road. The new self-serve yogurt establishment offers lots of great flavors and toppings. For more information on TCBY Bedford, including a video interview with the owner, click here.

4. Go to the library. Days like today are perfect for heading to the Bedford Public Library and picking out some interesting books to occupy your summer down time. The library also offers a summer reading program, often with snacks and refreshments, for people of all ages.

5. Head to the museum. The Currier Museum of Art, located at 150 Ash Street in Manchester, offers galleries full of modern and classic American and European Art. Admission is a reasonable $10 for adults, $ for seniors, $8 for students and children under the age of 18 get in for free. Though Currier is closed Tuesdays, it's open Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. (free admission from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.), and the first Thursday of each month from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

6. Stay in. Today's heat can be dangerous. The National Weather Service advices to stay inside as much as possible and keep hydrated. Heat, it claims, is the number one cause of weather related deaths each year. It may be best to find a board game or read a book inside. You can always go for a walk or BBQ when temperatures cool down early this evening. Bedford Police have also offered several tips for residents to stay safe when the temperatures breach 90 degrees.
