Here are the top stories in Bedford today:
- This week is Identity Theft Awareness Week, and the Bedford Police Department wants everyone to know the steps you can take to prevent identity theft. "We all have to be hypervigilant when it comes to protecting our identity," they wrote on their Facebook page. They suggested these helpful tips: 1) Read your credit card and bank statements each month and make sure there aren't suspicious on unaccounted for transactions. 2) Never give your credit card number out to someone over the phone unless you made the call and trust the business or person. 3) Report suspicious transactions to your credit card company or bank. 4) Review a copy of your credit report at least once each year and notify the credit bureau in writing of any entries that look suspicious, and 5) Always shred documents." - Tesla will recall all 53,822 cars that have the "full self-driving" driver-assist feature. The automaker programmed the car to slowly roll through stop signs in some cases. Alarmed drivers using the system say it has been inconsistent. The recall will impact Model S, X, 3, and Y vehicles running the beta version of the software. "Full self-driving" is a controversial driver-assist feature enabling cars to drive themselves. Tesla says that "full self-driving" requires "an attentive driver" who is ready to take control of the car at any time. The U.S. government has recently been more proactive about new car features that may introduce safety risks. Following an NHTSA investigation, Tesla announced it would no longer allow people to play video games on the touchscreens of its vehicles while the cars are in motion. - Southern New Hampshire is expecting a wintry mix of sleet, freezing rain, and mixed precipitation. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches is likely with sleet accumulations of about an inch.
