Here are the top stories in Bedford today:

  1. Congratulations to educator Tristan Bowen, of Riddle Brook School in Bedford, who was the recipient of the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST). Bowen was recognized by President Joe Biden as one of 117 dedicated teachers, mentors, and mentoring organizations in the nation that received the award of excellence on Tuesday. The award honors America’s dedicated teachers and mentors and the important role they have in supporting students who will be future STEM professionals, including "climate scientists, mathematicians, innovators, space explorers, and engineers." You can read more here: (The White House)
  2. Teachers are considering leaving the profession with stress levels reaching high levels due to the ongoing pandemic, but a program called The Regulated Classroom might help change their minds. The new program, developed by Emily Read Daniels, an educator and long-time New Hampshire school counselor, helps teachers deal with stress and prevent burnout. The New Hampshire Department of Education has partnered with The Regulated Classroom to help educators "heal" and "prevent burnout." Daniels spoke with All Things Considered host Peter Biello about The Regulated Classroom. You can listen to their conversation and read more about this story here: (NHPR)
  3. Music is coming to New Hampshire over Valentine's Day weekend. Here are two performances you may want to check out: Bruce in the USA, a Springsteen tribute band featuring Matt Ryan, has a show on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Dana Center for the Humanities at Saint Anselm College in Goffstown. Tickets are $45. Or you can check out Boston-based cover band, Heart Attack Ack Ack Ack Ack Ack: The Songs of Billy Joel, in Portsmouth at the Press Room on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m. for $25.
