Suspect Runs From Police, Taken Into Custody After Short Standoff

Two Manchester men were taken into custody after an accident on Spring Street. Pedro Nunez, 20, and Ayei Akot, 22, face charges.

MANCHESTER, NH - Manchester Police arrested two men after an accident Saturday morning that lead to a short standoff with a suspect.

Police say officers responded to the area of 135 Spring Street Saturday for a report of an accident with injury. The caller said a woman was struck by a vehicle, and there were people fighting at the scene.

When police arrived at about 2:35 a.m. they found a man lying in the road with serious injuries. A witness told officers he had seen an unknown woman get hit by a vehicle, and the man being assaulted. Police say the witness intervened, was also assaulted, and his backpack was stolen.

Officers talked to other witnesses and get suspect descriptions and surveillance video of the incident. Police identified Pedro Nunez, 20, and Ayei Akot, 22, both of Manchester, as suspects.

Police say Nunez was spotted running from the scene and was taken into custody.

Manchester Police received information that Akot was at a home on Exeter Ave at about 10:00 a.m. When police arrived, Akot ran from the address and a foot pursuit ensued. Akot was seen entering a residence at 185 Union St.

Police set up a perimeter and used a robot to gain entry to the building, and a K9 unit stood by the rear entrance. Verbal commands were also given over a loudspeaker. A robot was deployed by police and Akot eventually complied and was taken into custody without further incident.

Nunez was charged with Second Degree Assault, Felony Riot, and Resisting Arrest. Akot was charged with First Degree Assault, Felony Riot, Theft by Unauthorized Taking, Robbery, Falsifying Evidence, Resisting Arrest, and Criminal Trespass.

The woman who was hit by the vehicle has been spoken to and sustained minor injuries.
