Here are the top 3 stories today in Bedford:
- In another twist, Ghislaine Maxwell is being sued by her own defense lawyers who accused Maxwell, her estranged husband and her brother of hiding money to avoid paying legal fees. In December, Maxwell, 60, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for sex trafficking, allegedly failed to pay her defense lawyers at Haddon, Morgan & Foreman over $850,000 in legal fees. Federal agents arrested Maxwell in the small, rural town of Bradford, New Hampshire, (remember when a few news articles mixed the town up with Bedford?). She was renting a remote home on 156 acres that was paid for in cash through a limited liability company, according to federal prosecutors. (Daily Mail)
- Women, teens, and girls 12 and up can sign up for the Bedford Police Department's R.A.D. Women's Self Defense Course offered in September. The first three days of the self-defense course will focus on "awareness and recognition" and teach basic self-defense in real life situations. Women "will put what they learned to use in a controlled training environment," in the last session. Classes will be on Sept. 19, 21, 26 and 28 from 5:30-8:30 p.m. The location of the class in Bedford will only be announced to participants to ensure privacy. Applications are due by Friday, Sept. 16 at 4 p.m. (Bedford Patch)
- The Bedford Public Library online system will be unavailable Thursday, Aug. 25. The BPL announced that the catalog, circulation systems and e-resources will not be available that day due to a system upgrade. But if you already have something to pick up, they will still have contactless curbside pickup on Thursday, they said in a recent social media post. (Bedford (NH) Public Library via Facebook)
