  1. The UNH men's hockey team swept to victory against Boston College making this the UNH's fourth straight win. The Wildcats beat Boston College, 5-2, on Saturday night in Chestnut Hill, Mass., giving the UNH team a weekend series sweep of the No. 20 Eagles. A shout out to Senior goalie Mike Robinson, of Bedford, who made 31 saves. The Wildcats will play a two-game series on the road next weekend at UConn. You can read more here: (Concord Monitor)
  2. Snow is beautiful, but when a severe winter snowstorm is heading to New Hampshire, you may want to take a few precautions. Here are a few helpful tips the University of New Hampshire published online: If the power goes out due to ice or heavy snow, and you use space heaters or other portable heat sources to heat your home, use them with caution and make sure they are vented properly so carbon monoxide doesn't get into your house. You may want to also have carbon monoxide detectors in your home. Charge your cell phones and electronic devices in case you lose power, and if your car happens to get stuck in a snowdrift, or if you back up into a snowbank, make sure to your keep your tailpipe clear of snow and ice so carbon monoxide from the exhaust doesn't back up into the car. There are many more ways to be prepared for major storms, so when the next severe storm arrives, you will be ready. You can read more here: (UNH)
  3. What birds are visiting your bird feeder this winter? Naturalist Dave Anderson, senior director of education at the Society for the Protection of New Hampshire Forests, shared his Top 10 list of feathered visitors this winter in his recent Forest Journal article in The Union Leader. The most frequent visitors to his sunflower seed and suet feeders this winter are the dark-eyed junco, black capped chickadee, tufted titmouse, and white-breasted nuthatch, Anderson said. A few less predictable visitors included the red-breasted nuthatch and the striking yellow and black American goldfinch. Bluejays and Cardinals also came by for a winter meal.
