Here are the top stories in Bedford today:
- A man was found unresponsive on a Mount Washing Trail Saturday afternoon by hikers, who tried to save his life. Good Samaritans performed CPR for 40 minutes in freezing temperatures and harsh winds but were unable to revive him. A volunteer rescue team carried the body a mile down the Jewell Trail to the Cog Railway that transported the man to the base of the mountain. The hiker's dog was taken to a local animal shelter until his family can be reached. (WMUR)
- An $89 million windfall is coming to New Hampshire from a new government funding proposal, thanks to the efforts of Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH). Among the many New Hampshire programs Shaheen fought for, she was able to get $250,000 for THRIVE New Hampshire’s "Makin’ It Happen" program that will expand mental health services in New Hampshire, including Auburn, Bedford, Candia, Deerfield, Goffstown, Hooksett, Manchester, and New Boston. The funds will be used to "increase mental health training and reach underserved sectors of the population, with a focus on harm reduction and suicide prevention." (Senator Jeanne Shaheen)
