Here are the top stories today in Bedford:

  1. Voting in Bedford is on Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 7 a.m. When voting in the primary, Democrats vote for candidates on the Democratic ticket, and Republicans vote on their party ticket, but if a voter is "undeclared," they can ask for either a Democratic or Republican ballot. To remain undeclared, after voting they will need to change back to "undeclared" status before leaving the polling place, officials said. Voting will be at Bedford High School, 47 Nashua Road, in Bedford, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. You can find everything you need to know on the New Hampshire Primary Election Voter Guide here: (Bedford Patch)
  2. Hundreds of men, women, and children came to Manchester Delta Dental Stadium on 9/11 for the Memorial Stair Climb. The event honored New York City firefighters who selflessly gave their lives so that others may be saved after the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001. Many fellow firefighters, who were on duty on Sept. 11 twenty one years ago, climbed the steps in full firefighter gear. A memorial bell was rung as each name was read while participants climbed what would have been 110 stories of the World Trade Center. (Bedford Patch)
  3. Absentee Ballot pre-processing will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13. In a Town of Bedford news release, Town Moderator Brian Shaughnessy announced" "Bedford High School Gymnasium Absentee Ballot processing will begin at 10 a.m. in the BHS gymnasium on Election Day." You can find out more here: (Bedford Patch)
  4. Bedford bird watchers, an app named Merlin can help identify birds by their song or photo. In a recent Union Leader Nature Talks article, Cheryl Kimball wrote, "I have finally downloaded the Merlin app (from the Cornell Lab) on both my (Android) phone and my iPad. I have just started using it and I can see what all the excitement is about!" The Merlin app makes it easy to quickly identify birds you see or hear, Kimball noted, adding that the app identifies birds with “Get Photo ID” or “Sound ID.” She wrote,"While sitting in the backyard the other day watching our friend the catbird, listening to him meow and meowing back to him, I decided to click on Merlin’s sound ID just for fun. Almost immediately 'Gray Catbird' popped up. How cool is that!" It sounds pretty cool to me. (Subscription/The Union Leader)

From my notebook:

  • Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains: "Another great Farnsworth Weekend in the books. Volunteers, alum and staff had a great day learning new skills, making friends and recognizing the efforts of our membership." (Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains via Facebook)
  • Bedford Athletic Club: "The weather yesterday was absolutely beautiful and made for a perfect start to the little kids' Fall Saturday morning training sessions (PreK, K, 1st Grade). Everyone was having a great time, kids and adults alike." (Bedford Athletic Club via Facebook)
