Trump has a lot of ground to make up in New Hampshire.

According to the latest RealClearPolitics average of major state polls, Trump trails Clinton by 9.3 points. The most recent poll, taken by CBS News and YouGov between Aug. 10 and 12, had Clinton up by 9 points.

Trump may finally be listening to his advisers after bringing on a new team last week. Sticking to the script — something he has struggled with since the beginning of his campaign last year — is a new feature and not a bug of his once-again relaunched campaign.

That script has meant sticking to his bread and butter of attacking Democratic rival Hillary Clinton and avoiding self-wounding asides, the latter of which will allow him to appeal to previously offended minority groups as he plans visits to African-American neighborhoods in the upcoming weeks. Last week, Trump vowed he would turn around his lack of support among black voters (just 1 percent) to 95 percent once he seeks reelection in 2020.

Trump is expected to speak in Detroit in early September, making his third trip to Michigan since winning the Republican nomination in July in an attempt to break through Clinton’s firewall of African-American voters and overcome perceptions that he is racist.
