When is the First Day of School in Bedford?

Here are six things you should know in Bedford today.

1. Back to school blues. While some schools in New Hampshire and other parts of the country don't welcome students back until after Labor Day, Bedford students head back a week early. The first day of school in Bedford is Tuesday, Aug. 27. Click here for bus routes and other valuable back-to-school information.

2. Nothing comical about this deal! Today and every Wednesday, Village Comics in Bedford offers 20-percent off all new releases without exception (no subscription needed). For more information, email villagecomics196@gmail.com, call 471-3931 or visit www.villagecomics.net.

3. Educate yourself on Bedford's past! Stop by the Bedford Historical Society Museum today or any other Wednesday, from 10 a.m. to noon, for a weekly open house. Have some of your questions about Bedford's history answered and take the opportunity to purchase Bedford's own Stevens-Buswell CQ Coffee, some Bedford books, pewter ornaments and/or handmade pin creations by Dizzy Cupcakes. Information is also available pertaining to some of the Historical Society's upcoming events such as the third-annual  "Anything and Everything Yard Sale" on Sept. 28. While you're there, feel free to purchase your $5 shopping pass for Macy's Shop For A Cause on Saturday, August 24. For more information, click here.

4. Don't forget your grass skirt! The Purple Finch Café is celebrating two years of great food and fun in Bedford this Thursday, Aug. 22, beginning at 7 a.m. Join the festivities and wear a Hawaiian Shirt, and don't forget to try The Purple Finch's Big Kahuna Burger!

5. The weatherman says ... Temperatures continue their upward climb today and are expected to sneak into the low 90s with sunny skies. Tonight, Patchy fog after 5am. Otherwise, mostly clear, with a low around 63.

6. Catch a film at Fenway? No plans tonight? It's a little last-minute, but why not be spontaneous and take the kids to catch a flick on the big screen at Fenway Park? While the Sox are in California closing out their series against the San Francisco Giants, the first ever movie night at Fenway, will feature a 20th anniversary screening of beloved 90s baseball flick The Sandlot. The movie will be featured on the Mitsubishi Electric Diamond Vision high-definition screen in center field. Gates open at 7 p.m., movie begins at 8. General admission tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and younger (free for children younger than 2). Read more and buy tickets on the Red Sox website.
