When will Route 101 be Widened?

NHDOT has set dates and cost for project that will also add sidewalks and turning lanes to oft-used portion of Route 101.

Seventeen months ago, more than 60 residents gathered in Bedford to encourage the Governor's Advisory Commission on Intermodal Transportation (GACIT) to ease burdensome traffic on Route 101 with a project to widen the major thoroughfare from Wallace Road to the intersection of Route 114.

With the project to add an additional travel lane in both directions now in motion, a similar number of residents attended a Wednesday night meeting sponsored by the New Hampshire Department of Transportation (NHDOT) to learn more about the impending $6.5 million project, according to a recent Union Leader article.

There NHDOT officials explained that construction is expected to begin sometime in 2016 and be completed by the end of 2017, according to the UL report, which also states 90 percent of the project cost is expected to come from federal funding, with the state taking care of the remaining 10 percent.
