Here are the top 3 stories in Bedford today:

  1. A shout out to the Animal Rescue League of N.H. in Bedford. They are one of eight New Hampshire animal shelters participating in the Clear The Shelters program. This is the eighth consecutive year of the program that runs from Aug. 1-31. Since the program started in 2015, the NBC and Telemundo Boston station's local Clear The Shelters campaigns "have helped more than 50,000 pets find new homes." And nationally, more than 700,000 pets have been adopted. You can find out more about this story here: (NBC10 Boston)
  2. There are "8 Things to Know" about Triple H., the New Hampshire native who is the new WWE boss. Did you know that Paul Levesque, a.k.a. Triple H, was born and raised in Nashua? He played basketball at Nashua High School, and won a "prestigious bodybuilding title" at age 19, according to tot N.H. Magazine. He reportedly thought,“There has to be a better use for this strength than shoveling snow five months a year.” The famous wrestler is now a resident of Connecticut, but in 2015 he listed his Bedford, New Hampshire home for $1.1 million. (Seacoast Current)
  3. Two New Hampshire residents have been arrested in a multi-million-dollar money laundering ring. Shi Rong Zhang and Qiu Fang Zheng of Windham were part of a large-scale drug money laundering operation, the Department of Justice said. Shi Rong Zhang, 48, and Qiu Fang Zheng, 59, allegedly "laundered tens of millions of dollars" in drug trafficking profits at the family-owned China Gourmet restaurant in Boston. In a March investigation, FBI agents found cash "stashed under piles of frozen meat products." The suspects are also accused of using stolen gift cards to send Apple products overseas for "tens of millions of dollars in wire transfers." The two New Hampshire men were part of a larger group arrested in the Boston area. (WMUR)

From my notebook:

  • Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains: "📆 Our Williston office and store will be closed today, Aug. 1. Our Williston office and store will be closed frequently over the summer due to staff out at camp and covering trading post." (Girl Scouts of the Green and White Mountains via Facebook)
  • Brian Nolan and John Fitzgerald of Bedford will be making a third trip to provide greatly needed humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees on August 9. Ukraine may no longer be in the headlines, but the need is great as the brutal war rages on. Bedford 4 Ukraine is grateful for donations of any amount. The funds will be used directly to provide urgent assistance to Ukraine refugees. You can find out more here: (Bedford4Ukraine)
