1. NHPR marks 40th anniversary of the Challenger disaster with Remembering Christa (nhpr.org) — Concord residents are invited to share their memories of Christa McAuliffe, the beloved Concord High School teacher and astronaut whose legacy still resonates 40 years after the Challenger disaster. NHPR will air a month-long January audio series featuring New Hampshire voices, archival audio, and personal reflections on how Christa’s life, teaching, and mission continue to shape education and civic imagination across the state.
   

2. Christmas Eve fire displaces family in Webster (concordmonitor.com) — Concord firefighters were among several area departments that rushed to Webster on Christmas Eve to battle a house fire that destroyed a family’s home on White Plains Road. All six residents escaped safely, though one cat died, and the house is currently uninhabitable. Mutual aid crews from multiple surrounding towns assisted, and neighbors are supporting the displaced family through donations and an online fundraiser.
   

3. Margaret L. (Bradshaw) Albert, 78 (theweektoday.com) — Concord readers may pause to remember Margaret L. (Bradshaw) Albert, who was born in the city in 1947 and later made her home in Hanover. The 78-year-old, remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, and caregiver, died peacefully on December 27 after declining health. Her funeral services will be private, in keeping with her wishes.
   

4. As a new session approaches at the State House, here are the early childhood education bills in the pipeline (inklink.news) — From Concord’s State House, lawmakers are preparing a slate of 2026 bills that could reshape child care access, costs, and workforce support across New Hampshire. With a Concord representative leading a key funding measure and hearings starting in mid-January, local families, providers, and employers may see changes in scholarships, zoning rules, tax credits, and insurance options.
   

5. Federal funds for rural health: $204 million a year for New Hampshire (mychamplainvalley.com) — From Concord, state leaders announced that New Hampshire will receive $204 million a year for five years to strengthen rural health care, the largest award in New England. Plans include recruiting medical workers, expanding remote patient monitoring, and adding school fitness initiatives. The funding, part of a major federal bill, is expected to benefit communities statewide, including residents who rely on Concord-based providers and agencies.
