State Police Arrest 36 Over New Year's Holiday

One person was also arrested for driving 116 mph on Interstate 95.

State Police Director Robert Quinn announces the enforcement efforts of State Troopers during the New Year’s Eve traffic enforcement effort. The State Police are pleased to announce that there were no fatal motor vehicle crashes and want to thank all those who travelled safely and courteously.

Beginning Tuesday, Dec. 31 at 7 p.m. through Wednesday, Jan. 1 at 4 a.m., state troopers maintained a highly visible presence throughout the state to assure safe holiday travel. As a result of their efforts there were a total of 11 DUI arrests made and 20 other criminal arrests. A list of those arrested and their charges is as follows:
 
  • Stephen Mullan, 37, Colebrook: Driving After Suspension
  • Carlos Santiago, 25, Lempster: Driving After Suspension
  • Robert Dostaler, 21, Bennington: Driving w/ Suspended Registration & Possession of a Controlled Drug

  • Dylan Mcintosh, 18, Plymouth: Unlawful Possession of Alcohol
  • Norman Boyd, 68, Acworth: DUI & Driving While a Habitual Offender

In related New Year’s Day traffic enforcement efforts at approximately 7:23 a.m., Trooper Chris Storm of the New Hampshire State Police Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Unit was working as a member of the ground crew with the Special Enforcement (Aircraft) Unit when he arrested:

  • Connor Hegarty, 18, Wakefield, MA: DUI
  • Connor Evangelista, 20, Middleton, MA: Unlawful Possession of Alcohol
  • Nicholas Roberto, 19, Wakefield, MA: Unlawful Possession of Alcohol
  • Brendan White, 19, Reading, MA: Unlawful Possession of Alcohol

Hegarty had been clocked by aircraft driving 87 mph in a posted 65 mph speed zone on Interstate 95 southbound in Greenland. His arraignment date has been set for Jan. 13 in Portsmouth District Court, while Evangelista, Roberto and White are scheduled to be arraigned on Feb. 10.

The NH State Police Special Enforcement Unit regularly interdicts elevated speed violations and other aggressive driving behaviors. Its members patrol across the state during commuter traffic periods and holiday travel times with the goal of keeping New Hampshire’s roadways safe for all residents and visitors.

  • Mathew Cossette, 23, Lowell, MA: Reckless Driving & Transportation of Drugs 

Cossette was clocked by laser driving 116 mph in a posted 65 mph speed zone on Interstate 95 northbound in Hampton Falls. His arraignment date has been set for Feb. 13 in Seabrook District Court.

During 2013 there were 121 fatal crashes on New Hampshire roadways, and 132 people lost their lives as a result of these crashes. The majority of these crashes involved the driving behaviors of Impaired Driving (by alcohol and/or drugs), Distracted Driving, or Speeding. The New Hampshire State Police are committed to ensuring safe travel throughout the state and will continue our efforts to reduce collisions in 2014.
