The man, identified as James Donlon from Rye, is believed to have crashed near where Ocean Boulevard meets Church Street just before 1:30 p.m. A Hampton police officer who was parked nearby witnessed Donlon's truck leave the northbound side of the boulevard before plowing into the guardrails and a parking meter kiosk, ultimately ending up in the southbound lanes.
Donlon was taken to the hospital "as a precautionary measure" and the front end of his truck was heavily damaged, according to police.
