Hampton Police Investigating Shots Fired On Ocean Boulevard And G Street, Chief Says

Reno: A person of interest was taken into custody and a gun was found; traffic was diverted from areas of Ashworth Avenue, Ocean Boulevard.

HAMPTON, NH — Hampton police are investigating a shots-fired call in the area of Ocean Boulevard and G Street on Thursday night.

Around 7:30 p.m., police were sent to the area after receiving reports of gunfire. Hampton officers and others formed a perimeter and identified a suspect, Hampton Police Chief Alex Reno said.

“A firearm was located and secured by police,” he said. “A person of interest matching the description was quickly taken into custody by police. There is no further threat to public safety at this time.”

G Street, he said, was temporarily closed, and certain areas of Ashworth Avenue and Ocean Boulevard were temporarily diverted for traffic but have reopened.

Reno said no one was injured and the incident remains under investigation. Police in town were assisted by the New Hampshire State Police, Rockingham County Sheriff’s Department, police from Epping, Exeter, Hampton Falls, North Hampton, and Kensington, as well as Hampton Fire and Rescue, and the Rockingham County Attorney’s Office.

“Tonight,” Reno said, “several officers ran toward the sound of gunfire and quickly rendered the area safe. I’m thankful that there were no injuries and thankful for the officers who did not hesitate to immediately respond to the threat. While these situations are extremely rare, this kind of behavior will not be tolerated, and those involved will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
